Open Source Persona

Some of the most popular Open Source Persona I am aware off.
  1. Linus Torvalds the Linux Project Co-ordinator. 1991 is the time frame when this project started.
  2. Richard Stallman is the founder of GNU project (1983) and free(dom)software movement. GPL is the most widely used copyright license in the open source community.
  3. Larry Wall created Perl in 1987.
  4. Brian Behlendorf is the key developer of Apache Web Server that was released in 1995.

Open Source movie

I wish we make a Movie as open source for main stream consumption. We currently have many snippets in the open source community. Not a real full feature movie. We need Feature film in celluloid. Digital media formats (DVD/VCD/VHS). DV tapes (AVI format) for others to have high quality movie for further modification. Online formats - MPEG/WMV/RM/DivX/AVI Online delivery - file transmission / streaming Audio - CD/Tape(?) Promotions and Advertisements: 1. Theatrical trailers 2. Still pictures 3. TV advertisements 4. Audi advertisements 5. Bill Boards 6. On the busses 7. Online ads 8. Radio ads 9. News Print 10. On bus/taxi advt 11. Ad posters 12. Preview to select audience for feedback 13. Film Fares Products for promotion: 1. Toys 2. T-Shirts 3. Collabrative marketting channel - McDonald (?) Work with 1. Reviewers 2. Awards Product should be available for renting - Blockbuster and neighborhood mom&pop video shop Give copies to Public Libraries If the content turns out to be appropriate - give it to schools. Work on copy-right/licensing - gpl (?) Work on distribution channels International (language/customs/laws/export) On the way we should get some of the byproducts like 1. Animation software(s) 2. Server farms for computer generation 3. May be some cool displays innovation 4. Distributed computing 5. Share ideal computing/storage/network power during the execution of the project. 6. Video/audio format conversion The project shall consider inclusion of more people (people with disability - hearing) to participate and benefit the fruits. Guiding principle: 1. Linux brought the idealistic GNU to real world. 2. FireFox is popular due to trimming the code blot - focusing on what IS required for the end user(s) 3. Perl was born due to "scratch the itch" of developer who saw things missing. 4. Apache - was born of the need by community who wanted support for NCSA that dropped suddenly. 5. Don't reinvent the cart wheel. Use the communities' collective knowledge. 6. Making profit is not a sin. Let distributors Why me? 1. I have and still like to integrate many seemingly different things/technologies to make a meaningful results. 2. Movie, like Software (in which I earn my bread), is a very good candidate for community development. 3. Increasing the competition in the movie industry will benefit the commons.

Here are some of the successful Open Source software that have hit the main stream.
  1. PALM (Perl / Python / PHP, Apache, Linux & MySQL)
  2. FireFox has been making a big wave recently.
  3. GNU with it's recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX” is one of the earliest proponent of the freesoftware. GPL the General Public License is one of the most popular license in the open source world. Linux being the most popular of them.
  4. SourceForge.net boast to be the world's largest Open Source software development website.
  5. WikiPedia boasts to be the free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
  6. RedHat is for profit publically traded company that is synonymous with Linux distribution and open source.
